Cradle of wine

This is how Armenia welcomes you !!!

You know you are in wine country the moment you land at the Yerevan airport where a 20-feet-tall inflatable wine bottle greets you outside the terminal .

Armenia, along with Georgia, Azerbaijan, northern Iran and eastern Turkey constitute what is called the Cradle of Wine in the Caucasus Mountains. Wine-making supposedly originated here in biblical times.

The meticulous Armenians have kept records of viticulture since Noah's time when the biblical patriarch planted the first vineyard at the foothills of Mount Ararat. Some of the highest wine-growing regions in the northern hemisphere, diverse microclimate and rich, volcanic soils lend distinct flavours to an array of indigenous grape varietals.

Armenia is also known for brandy production.

Driving around the country, the advertisements for Ararat brandy are everywhere.

Visiting the Areni village for the wine is a must .

White strokes and other birds

This picture was taken while going to the Areni village,Armenia from the moving bus which we travelled . We saw many of these nests on posts and the story behind it is below .

From late March to August every year, around 650 pairs of breeding white storks descend onto wetland-adjacent villages in Armenia, settling into numbered nests where they will hatch nestlings and teach the babies to feed. The storks common in worldwide folklore for bringing babies to families use Armenia as a stopover point to breed on their long journey south from western Europe to their winter grounds in Africa. At the same time, more than 1,000 families in those Armenian villages will take pen to paper and monitor the storks’ progress as part of a program called Nest Neighbors.

If you notice you can see the strokes and other birds on top of the post .

Have you seen anything like this before in any country ?

Hello everybody.  I hope you all are safe during this pandemic . Long time since I wrote . Got busy with Tungli and few meeting ends in life .

So let's start now ....

We went to Armenia ,Yerevan city on May 9th 2019 after Tungli's 2nd birthday.  We had a very good time and posting this now makes me really feel how life could change the next year . Life is so unpredictable. I wish we go many more vacations and all stay in peace . So thought of posting the scen behind this man .

This picture was taken by me while having a glass of wine at Areni village(Vayots Dzor province of Armenia) .This place is best known for wine production .Areni is believed to be founded by Noah and his sons who planted the first grapes .

Every second spent on these roads are absolutely stunning and worth a travel . Treat to eyes !!

So this man( I dont know his name) gave us different kinds of wine to taste and we had to find the flavour . That was a small game conducted here after the lunch we had in the village itself . We dont know his name but he introduced his son who was to be get married soon and we wished him for a happy life and returned back in the bus to our hotel room.Offcourse we had a good sleep while return ;)

The best of wine and nature together .
